Leah June (Raudabaugh) Nelson, 100, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, at her home in Boca Raton, Florida, surrounded by loved ones. Prior to moving to Florida, Leah June lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland for 54 years. Born on May 22, 1925, in the small town of Loganton, Pennsylvania, Leah June was the eldest child of the late William Joseph and Sara Ellen (Mark) Raudabaugh. Growing up on the family farm, she learned the value of hard work early on—a lesson that stayed with her throughout her life. That same work ethic carried her through decades of service in the food and catering industry, where she continued working well into her eighties. Leah June was married to her beloved husband, Freemont W. Nelson, for over three decades until his passing in 1982. Together, they built a beautiful life and a family that remained her greatest joy. She had a true talent for working with fabrics, and quilting became one of her greatest passions. Her hands stitched warmth and love into every quilt she made—many of which were gifted to family and friends. Several of her handmade quilts were donated to charitable organizations to support their fundraising efforts. She also contributed numerous quilts to a mission that distributed them worldwide, offering comfort to those facing hardship. Leah June is survived by her five children: Gail Ann Crawford of Buckeystown, Maryland; Gary Lee Nelson (Janet) of Mt. Airy, Maryland; Susan Nelson Campbell of Germantown, Maryland; Douglas Richard Nelson (Jody) of Mt. Airy, Maryland; and Eric James Nelson (Cam) of Boca Raton, Florida. She is survived by eight grandchildren—Kimberly, Jackie, Monica, Corey, Justin, Lauren, Joe, and Eva. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Myers of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; and two sisters-in-law; Janice Raudabaugh of Rauchtown, Pennsylvania and Maxine Raudabaugh of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania; a lifelong friend since early childhood, Betty Brown of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania - along with several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is reunited in peace with her husband Freemont, her parents, and her siblings: sisters Frances Bates and Esther Myers, and brothers Robert, Bruce, and Laney Raudabaugh. The family will receive guests at a viewing from 10 -11 AM on Saturday, July12, 2025 at the Wayne P. Urbine Funeral Home, Inc., 95 E. Main St., Loganton, Pennsylvania. A service by Rev. Gwen Bernstine, the niece of Leah June will begin at 11:00 AM in the funeral home followed by interment at the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery of Eastville in Loganton, Pennsylvania.
